Experience the Grace of India in Retreat & Celebration
We invite you to join us for a remarkable Journey to India where you will be immersed in the depths of Yogic wisdom and spiritual unfolding. Our pilgrimage centers on Rishikesh, known as the home of Yoga in India, the sacred Ganges River and the legendary Himalaya Mountains. You will live as a true Yogi. You will join hundreds of fellow Yogis from around the world in celebration of Sadhana (practice), then move up the mountains for a quiet, devotional retreat on the banks of the Ganges. You will also witness modern Indian life and enjoy a culture still rooted in spirit and consciousness. Deep Yoga’s Journey to India holds the promise of a life-changing experience for every aspiring and devoted Yogi.
Rishikesh & the International Yoga Festival:
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains, Rishikesh is the home of Yoga. For thousands of years great Sadhus and Sages have meditated and practiced along the banks of the Ganges River (Ma Ganga) which flows though the heart of this sacred city. Rishikesh is also home to the International Yoga Festival, at which Bhava & Laura have been invited to teach and share Deep Yoga in 2009.
Journey to India includes a powerful celebration of Yoga at the festival, with teachers from around the world joining Deep Yoga to present Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Mantra and more. Great living Sages will hold Satsangs (group teachings) and each evening we will gather on the banks of Ma Ganga for Aarti, lifting our voices in mantra and song to the Divine.
You will stay on the river at Parmath Niketan, a living Ashram and Spiritual Community whose spiritual master, Pujya Swamiji, is renowned as a global leader devoted to peace and serving humanity. Ayurvedic treatments will be available, and you will be served vegetarian meals based upon the principles of Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga. You will also have time to explore Rishikesh and immerse yourself in local culture. Click here for scenes and news from the 2008 Festival.
During the Festival you will also partake in a global Seva (selfless service) project, joining hundreds of Yogis from around the world in Yoga Aid, performing 108 Sun Salutations at sunrise on the banks of Ma Ganga to raise funds for orphaned children and building schools in India and Africa. This is an expression Karma Yoga and Seva - serving others as Yogis - and an opportunity to make your journey even more sacred and devotional by serving humankind and helping to make a difference in the world.
Ma Ganga & Rainforest Retreat:
Following the Festival, your Journey goes higher into the mountains above Rishikesh to Brahmpuri for a Deep Yoga Retreat at the Rainforest House. You will live each day fully dwelling in the heart, rising at dawn on Ma Ganga for Yoga & Meditation, immersing yourself in her sacred waters, taking part in ancient fire ceremonies and Pujas (devotional rituals), along with studying Yoga and exploring the innermost depths of your True Self.
The Rainforest House is a conscious space created by a European and Indian couple devoted to spiritual practice. Their live-in chef will provide sumptuous vegetarian meals freshly prepared on-site each day. You will have time for individual contemplation, group discussions, journaling and merging with the energies of unique spiritual surroundings.
Your retreat also includes a visit to the Vashista Cave where the great sage Vashista, known as the Guru to Lord Rama, sat in meditation. This is a sacred pilgrimage site visited by dedicated seekers from around the world.
Mahatma Gandhi & Old Delhi:
In New Delhi, you will visit the Raj Ghat Gandhi Memorial where an eternal flame is kept alight for his memory, then visit the National Gandhi Museum and learn more about this remarkable being and his amazing contribution to humankind. You will have opportunity for contemplation at a sacred Hindu Temple, then enjoy the contrast of a raucous rickshaw ride through historic Old Delhi as you experience an amazing and unique side of Indian life.
